Love People and Help Them
In an
American city, lived a great surgeon, who was also a professor in a medical
school. He was a true physician in that he not only had superlative skills but
also loved people and went about doing good. He became deeply interested in the
little crippled newsboy at the corner, where he regularly bought his newspaper
from. The boy was a bright little fellow, and one day the surgeon told him, “Johnny,
would you like to have me cure that leg of yours so that you could run and play
like other boys?” The boy replied that he did not have enough money to pay for
the operation. The doctor agreed to do it out of love and not for money. “Oh,
Doctor, that would make me so happy,” replied the boy.
At the
operation theatre, before he was administered anaesthesia, the boy wanted to pray.
He was granted permission. Then he prayed aloud, “God, grant the surgeon a long
life so that he may save the lives of many other people.” The prayer touched
the heart of the surgeon and later he commented…
